A Figure 8 Island Style Shoot: Vintage & Romantic

June 11th, 2014

0033 Figure 8 Styled Shoot Theo Milo Photo

Working with a range of talented wedding professionals in Wilmington, North Carolina is one of the many lovely perks about being a floral designer; setting up a style shoot at the breathtaking Figure 8 Island Yacht club is just a pretty bonus! This vintage inspired—wildly romantic—intimate wedding shoot was as lovely as it was inspiring. Theo Milo Photography captured all the fine details of the day. Soft, pale shades of pink and yellow roses, tulips, and ranunculus were our main floral inspiration, all romantically set in heirloom china on vintage linens. This shoot was representative of how sweet and timeless can still be breathtaking and lovely.

Our Design Tip of the week: Make use of the unexpected while creating flowers. Look at that gold-rimmed china serving bowl, piled perfectly with fresh blooms…a centerpiece doesn’t always have to be in only a certain container or vase, sometimes the best design details come from using a little imagination. Enjoy.

A Colorful Celebration: Orange & Turquoise

April 9th, 2014

Carr_Smith_Heba_Salama_Photography_carrwedding606_lowSpring has sprung and we thought it was the perfect time to show off our fun loving May bride’s oceanfront bash. Oh, how color set the tone for this festive wedding! Lauren’s main colors were the delightful Caribbean hues of orange and turquoise, accented with splashes of yellow, green, and pink. This eclectic, creative wedding design centered on the couple’s personal elements of pop art meets beach side, exemplified from the innovative alter to Lauren’s distinct broach bouquet…throw in those beach balls and you have one festive party! What was our favorite detail? Lauren’s conscious choice to incorporate her bold pops of color into every last detail. This wedding takes the cake for its design colorfully representing our delightful couple’s personalities. Enjoy!

Sherbet & Sparkle- A Figure 8 Island Wedding

February 5th, 2014

I_0367Don’t you just love a little sparkle in your life? Our ultra-glam bride, Corina, shone bright for her wondrous spring wedding at Figure 8 Island Yacht Club. The bride is a friend of ours, so it’s no wonder we were a bit weepy as this handsome couple exchanged vows. Corina’s vision of a sherbet color story and a clean, romantic aesthetic was a delight  as we selected all of our favorite peach and cream roses we could get our hands on. The bride’s color choice of “faded sherbet” allowed the flowers to pop against her bridesmaids’ coral peach dresses and the bride’s miles of glamorous tulle. Corina and Gordan’s wedding was that perfect mix of romance and sophistication. What was our favorite part? The petal peach wrap adorning a little sparkle. Everything looks better with a little sparkle!

DESIGNER’S TIP: Mixing a subtle, but similar, palette adds an element of depth so each blended color can perfectly ‘pop’. When you incorporate in a variety of complementing colors, all your details shine bright! Corina’s bouquet was a variety sherbet hues which allowed all her stunning details to stand out—such as the bouquet’s ribbon wrap and that drool worthy jewelry. Vibrant & Tropical: A Waterfront Wedding

December 4th, 2013

kourtney and jay-012Who needs to travel to the Caribbean for a wedding when you live in Wilmington?! Our September bride’s vivid blooms and picturesque waterfront wedding reminded us of a beach getaway somewhere warm and tropical. With an overall look of beach chic, and texture galore, our design team couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear as each lush and colorful bloom was cheerfully fastened into this design. Just look at that arbor! Filled to the brim with hydrangea, roses, orchids, and lilies, it was the perfect backdrop for this adorable couple’s nuptials. Kourtney and Jay’s sunset color palette was a magnificent choice amongst the blue hues of the intracoastal waterway. What was our favorite part? Hmm…it’s a toss-up between those swoon-worthy orange dahlias’ in Kourtney’s bouquet and this lovely couple’s infectious smiles. It’s a definite tie (wink). No matter what, we knew this wedding was perfect to brighten up your day! Beachfront Hues Navy & Green: A Blissful Bash

November 20th, 2013

9605004458-R1-E003This handsome couple made our day, kicking off our summer 2013 season with a wedding located right where we all love to be…the beach! They also were just featured on the blog Equally Wed, a great feature all about their coastal wedding.

Michael & Kyle knew exactly how to complement their breathtaking beach surroundings, incorporating a contemporary twist to the classic colors of navy and green. Their vision was to create an overall look that was as natural as their coastal setting, as well as infuse a modern element for style. And oh boy, did we love designing this wedding! Coastal classic met contemporary seamlessly with voluminous bridesmaids’ bouquets full of lush textures, pops of green viburnum, and the unexpected texture of succulents. They were perfect for those divine midnight blue dresses the bridesmaids donned. Inside the ballroom tall cylinders with willow swirled about, accented by low mirrored cubes of white hydrangea to create a clean but dramatic look.

What was out favorite bit of this wedding? The Grooms’ boutonnieres. Styled to complement this handsome couple’s tailored suits and a nod to southern living, a gardenia boutonniere and a sage & cotton boutonniere were both as sophisticated as the couple were themselves. Congratulations Michael & Kyle!

DESIGNER’S TIP: To envision a clean, cohesive design doesn’t mean it can’t be a show stopper. E.g. You don’t need to add all the trimmings in the box to be fantastic. This couple’s wedding flowers stood out just as much as their quality threads did (literally). Their color scheme and the complementing designs allowed every detail to ‘pop!’-from their setting, to their wedding party’s attire, to their nautical cake. It all seamlessly tied together!

Luxe & Lovely: Soft Pinks and Whites

May 22nd, 2013

00141_IMG_7664_LisaDean_LindseyJune is just around the (wedding) bend and a month that makes us as giddy as our pending brides-to-be. Lisa & Dean’s 2012 June wedding was a day of perfection out at Figure 8 Yacht Club. Lisa’s soft color palette of pale pinks and striking whites was the perfect color story amongst the crisp blue water and flourishing green landscape. The best part for us was playing with all those sensual orchids… my, oh my! The overall aesthetic captured the couple’s sophisticated style and transformed the room into a fragrant visual of romance. 00174_IMG_8068_LisaDean_Lindsey 00170_IMG_7773_LisaDean_Lindsey00147_IMG_7678_LisaDean_Lindsey 00166_IMG_7732_LisaDean_Lindsey 00158_IMG_7708_LisaDean_Lindsey 00145_IMG_7672_LisaDean_Lindsey 00136_IMG_1753_LisaDean_Rebecca00140_IMG_1766_LisaDean_Rebecca00139_IMG_1762_LisaDean_Rebecca…Swoon.

Fun Design Fact: Did you know this delicate looking flower above is in fact very durable? That’s right! Orchids are not only breathtaking but ideal for indoor and outdoor settings.

Modernly Refreshing, Green & White: Figure 8

April 11th, 2013

Lauren and Michael’s May 2012 wedding still leaves us giddy over all the attention to detail congenially fashioned together to give their guests a party they’d never forget (and we’re pretty sure they never will). Lauren’s vision of a simple, modern design full of abundance in the refreshing palette of green and white, accented by purple, allowed us the delightful opportunity to play. And oh boy, did we ever!  Not a detail was missed from the twinkling willow branches climbing the tent poles with smilax, to the sumptuous hydrangea & viburnum dangling from the chandeliers, to the varying lush table arrangements mirroring the enthusiasm and elegance of the couple themselves. One of the most endearing detail was the couple’s request to infuse family traditions into their aesthetic, Lauren’s family prayer-book delicately fastened with two gardenias was southern sentiment at its best…sigh…now, this was a party!
