Succulents and a Southern, Soft Palette

August 20th, 2013

Gwyn and Mike-15Sometimes the best part of designing wedding flowers is seeing all the wonderful moments of our couples’ big day captured on film. Gwyn & Mike’s wedding was just that type of moment, full of Southern charm and loads of personality. Gwyn’s sea-foam green/gray hued bridesmaids’ dresses allowed us to infuse the subtle pop of peachy pinks into a palette of creams and a mecca of textured greens. The fabulous element (and texture) of succulents was the perfect match for our bride’s romantic, natural aesthetic. Not to mention, the tiny detail of twine around the boutonnieres to compliment the burlap bouquet wrap. We love when we get to play. FYI- We can’t get enough of the bridal party shot above “just hanging” on a live oak tree…southern charm at it’s best.

DESIGNER’S TIP: Never shy away from the juxtaposition of two opposite textures or feels. There is a creative delight when you complete a look that infuses a visual surprise. Example: the succulents mixed with the large, peach cabbage rose.

September 9, 2011 – St. Mary Catholic Church

Michelle was looking for a traditional southern wedding with an antique feel. We used a mixture of roses, hydrangea and thistle in beautiful antique silver vases to compliment the exposed brick walls of The Balcony on Dock.

Congratulations Michelle and Brian!

A special thanks to Social Butterfly Events, The Balcony On Dock and Bella Rose Photography.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church – April 9, 2011

This super-sweet bride came to us with a childhood dream; she wasn’t sure of all the details, but she knew she wanted to carry Lily of the Valley down the aisle.  We were honored to bring her dream to life and happy to help fill in the blanks.  The couple also knew they wanted to host the reception on Wrightsville Beach; the old mailbox on the north end was the place where Eric had proposed.  We love how they shared the memory of their proposal by using a new mailbox in lieu of a traditional guest book.

Congratulations to Cathleen and Eric!

Kenan Chapel – June 4, 2011

This traditional and preppy couple wanted to stay true to the their Southern roots, serving up cheesy biscuits, classic flowers in whites and ivories with pink accents, traditional silver elements, and an old Wilmington trolley.  This wedding is just bursting with sweet Southern charm; so much so that it caught the eye of Style Me Pretty back in August.  Enjoy the romantic reception at The Surf Club, and yes, baby’s breath is oh so beautiful when clustered together.

Congratulations to Rachel and John!
